Talking about Handloom of Assam the first thing come in mind
is about the golden silk muga, the finest silk produced in Assam. It is said
the women of Assam weave fairy tales in their looms. The people of northeast
India fashioned their crafts, it’s like the people are following the amazing
wealth of prehistoric memories, legends, mythology and history. Well weaving
reflects some of the most important features of each community like combining
bright colours and breathtaking patterns which reflect the uniqueness of Assam
creativity in Handloom.
In the villages of Northeast India, in every houses of
villages you experience a common sounds which heard mostly i.e. is the
click-clack of the loom which the villagers produced with their hands. The
women weavers produce from blankets to gamochas, mekhelas and chaddars ; It’s a
traditional pride and love which is reflects in their work of creativity. It is
said that Gandhiji during his famous tour to promote Khadi and swadeshi, was so
moved that he remarked, ”Assamese women weave fairy tales in their clothes”.
Weaving in Assam is filled with artistic creative sensibility and so intimately
reflecting linked to folk life.
