CANE AND BAMBOO CRAFTS

Cane and bamboo crafts have lot of contribution towards the lifestyle and economy of the Northeastern people of Assam. Those happen to the daily commonly used items ranging from furniture to roof tops to common households’ items. One of the most common item made of bamboo is Japi, made from stripes of bamboo and takow paat( dired palm leaves). Basically the Japi was made for the open aired workers like farmers but now Japi was also used as decorative items specially for decorating in drawing rooms of homes.

There are various items made of bamboo and canes and it have been used from the time we have even been born. Before this bamboo and cane handmade items were used as daily items for need. Like CHALANI (Sieve) woven with fine bamboo slips in a criss-cross way. It is used for sieving rice, paddy, tea-leaves etc. and also used for washing fish. Well various items are there which are used for preserving things or used for helpful means like catching fish or for household items and also gives a eco-friendly things. Some of them are namely:
